Over the last few months of her first pregnancy, Maria Auditore was little less than a whirlwind of activity. She set about ordering new curtains for the palazzo windows, picking out new dining sets, choosing and setting up the bedroom for the baby and sewing new infant clothes. She was a bundle of energy, and even as her belly grew increasingly large and her feet swelled considerably, she continued to carry out her role as a relatively new wife and upcoming mother with enthusiasm.
At that moment though, she was just enjoying the rare moment of peace she got with her husband, Giovanni. Between his meetings with Lorenzo de Medici, his missions for the Order and Maria's own preparations, the two hardly got any time together, anymore.
Now, however Maria was enjoying every second she was able to steal away with him. She gave a sigh of satisfaction and let her head tilt against the sofa back. Her toes wiggled teasingly. Giovanni smiled and took the hint, increasing

It was a beautiful summer day in Italy, and even more so in Florence. Maria Auditore was one of many people who were currently enjoying the weather by making a trip to the market. It wasn't that she was in dire need of anything, but the day was much too inviting to spend it indoors.
Maria wandered through the throngs of people with no particular destination in mind. She enjoyed watching the masses and was glad to be out and about; the palazzo was feeling empty without Giovanni there. He was currently working at the Medici bank and wouldn't be expected home until late afternoon. Maria smiled softly to herself and her fingers reached up to brush the gold pendant that hung around her neck. It was Giovanni's engagement seal he had given her four years ago. The pendant was a flat oval shape with a brilliantly cut ruby set in the center. On the backside, the Auditore coat of

It was December, 1464, and the normal bustling of the Florentine streets had died away as night slowly set in and the weather with it. Despite the cold and blowing snow, the Palazzo Auditore looked warm and inviting. Inside, Maria Auditore was attempting to convince her eldest two children that it was bedtime.
"But mamá," eight-year old Federico whined, "what if papá comes home? I want to see him."
"Me too!" Ezio quipped, having just barely turned five and already mimicking everything his older brother did.
Maria just smiled down at her two sons. "I promise I will send him up to see you. But it's getting late and you sister and brother are already asleep."
Federico huffed and brushed a stray strand of his dark brown hair out of his hazel eyes. "But they're little! I'm grown up; I don't need to sleep as much."
"Yeah, me too!" Ezio echoed again, thrilled at the thought of stay
Destiny - Assassin TrainingTraining didn't start right away, at least not for me. Mario and Giovanni wanted to wait until my shoulder had healed completely first. Of course, that didn't mean that we didn't explore a few options. The first thing that needed to be addressed was what I knew, or rather, didn't know. When it was clear that I was going to have to start from scratch, Giovanni offered to take me while Mario worked with Ezio and Federico on more advanced skills.
Maria was sad when she found out that I was going to start Assassin training. She sat down with me and we had a long discussion about everything from the dangers of being an Assassin to a woman's place in the world. I felt bad about making her worry, especially since she had just assumed the position of being my mom, but the alternative wasn't exactly pleasant in my opinion. I would be stuck in Monteriggioni doing very little besides cooking and maybe some bookwork. I wanted to see the Italy as it developed through the Renaissance era, because I

Even as wonderful as Federico and Amelia's wedding was, our mission from Lorenzo wasn't going to wait. From what we had understood, the Pazzi conspirators had split up and hid along the Tuscan countryside, making it very difficult to find them. Bernardo Baroncelli had actually tried to run to Constantinople right after the attack on the Medici and had been caught by some of Mario's men. Unfortunately, he had escaped and disappeared with the others. My concern was that the other men would try run as well, but when I asked Mario about it, he shook his head.
"If that were the case, I would have sent most of my men to watch the roads to and from Firenze. Only Jacopo has the money to leave Toscana and the Republic of Florence now, and I highly doubt he would do so. Right now, the best we can do is wait for word from my spies."
"And how long will that take?" I asked.
Mario Auditore knew his mission had gone to hell the instant the guards in the next room all went silent. Back wedged tightly against the cold stone of the hallway, hand on the hilt of his sword, the Assassin let out a quiet curse. There was never a good reason for every guard to go quiet all at once. Not unless they knew someone was there.
Mario could not stay. The guards in the next room had begun talking again in low, hurried voices. He heard tables being overturned bookcases and chairs pushed aside. He heard glass shatter and risked a quick peek around the corner. A lamp had toppled over. Mario counted eight guards searching the large, elaborate chamber, none of them bothering to clean up the mess. He took a deep breath, counting off the beats of his heart. Uno...due...tre... He wouldn't have a better chance. Mario drew back from the wall, silently cursing his poor luck. He's been in the Maberti Palazzo for three hours, an unheard of amount of time
